    • Many intellectual works have been created in digital forms and published on Internet since the rapid development of information communication environment. Most digital resources last only a relatively short period of time and then disappear. For the selection and preservation of digital resources, UNESCO has declared ‘The UNESCO Charter on the Preservation of the Digital Heritage’ in October 2003, providing clear statement on the preservation and use of Internet knowledge resources.
    • World major libraries have already carried out projects for selecting and preserving Internet intellectual resources since the mid-1990s and have published extensive research results. According to some of the reports from them, the present generation may be considered as a forgotten dark age by future generations if we neglect to select and preserve digital resources at country level.
    • The National Library of Korea, as a national representative library, that is a responsible authority for the selection and preservation of national knowledge resources has carried out the OASIS (Online Archiving & Searching Internet Sources) project - an online digital resource selection & preservation project - for the purpose of offering research data to future generations and collecting diverse digital contents for the opening of the National Digital Library in 2008 by selecting and archiving valuable internet data at country level.
